Day Forty-Eight: La Finca de Mariposas

Day Forty-Eight: La Finca de Mariposas

Day Forty-Eight: La Finca de Mariposas
On Saturday, Dee, Amber and I visited the Butterfly Farm in Monteverde. They feed the butterflies—the blue morphos in particular—fermented fruit. As a result, the butterflies fly around in an uneven, drunken stupor. Their unpredictable flying behavior confuses predators and allows the butterfly to escape.

Day Fifty: Tramonti Pizzeria
Amber, Dee and I at Tramonti—this is the best pizza place in Monteverde and probably the best pizza I’ve ever had.

Day Ten: Return to Monteverde, Costa Rica
After some last-minute shopping at the market, we left Masaya at 10 AM for Monteverde. We met Evan, a Colombian-American, at the border crossing. Pablo convinced him to stay a night in Monteverde, where the four of us had dinner in Santa Elena.
The trip was amazing and I had a great time. I will definitely revisit Nicaragua in the future.

Day Six: Altagracia
Most Nicaraguan families do not have a car—rather, they have a family bicycle on which they ride “Nico-style.” The bicycle is used to transport two to three people at a time across town.
